Social Opportunities

Inclusion Connections - Our mission is to strengthen the lives of individuals with disabilities by creating inclusive opportunities for community involvement, access to meaningful employment, and better options for independent living.

Special Populations - program of the Johnson County Park and Recreation District provides fun, educational and socializing activities for members of the Johnson County community with special needs.

Special Populations (Blue Valley) - Adapted and integrated leisure activities designed for individuals with special needs. Participants are encouraged to consider any programs offered in this guide.

  • Young Athletes program is an innovative sports play program for children with intellectual disabilities, ages 3-7, designed to introduce them to the world of sports, prior to Special Olympics eligibility at age 8.
  • Sports offer year-round training and athletic competition in 22 Olympic-type sports to children and adults with Intellectual Disabilities.

Therapeutic

Mid-Night Farm - We offer a variety of therapeutic riding classes to meet the needs of riders ages 4 and up with a wide range of physical, cognitive and/or emotional challenges.

Playabilities - Individualized, compassionate, client-centered occupational, physical and speech therapy services.  

ACI Learning Centers -  leaders in the ABA field by providing quality services for children with autism, family members and other professionals

Aspire Behavioral Solutions - ​provides services based on the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) to those in and around the Kansas City community

Autism From The Start -  intervention services help children from toddlers to kindergartners learn important skills such as connecting and communicating with others, playing, and learning.

Summer Camps

Camps For Kids - works to assure that no Kansas City area child will be turned away from summer camp because of low income, or physical or developmental disabilities.  View a list of local camps.

Camp Encourage - Our mission is to encourage social growth, independence, and self-esteem in youth with autism spectrum disorders through a quality, overnight camp experience located in the greater Kansas City area.

SOAR Special Needs Day Camp - Camp is open to kids and adults with special needs, ages 3 y/o (by January 1, 2016) and up. Cost is $100 per camper. Camp runs Monday-Thursday 9-4; Friday times are from 1-8pm due to our big family celebration that evening. 

Respite Nights

Respite, a break for caregivers and families, is a service in which temporary care is provided to children or adults with disabilities, or chronic or terminal illnesses, and to children at risk of abuse and neglect. 

  • Matthew’s Ministry - by Church of the Resurrection. Free monthly respite in Leawood, KS. Siblings included.  Registration required.
  • Parents’ Night Out by Legacy Christian Church. Free respite at their Overland Park, Olathe, and Lee’s Summit campuses for ages 3 years – adult on the first Saturday of the month.  Registration required.
  • Family Night Out by Lakeland Community Church. Free monthly respite in Lee’s Summit, MO. Siblings included.  Registration required.
  • SOAR by Grace Community Church. Free bimonthly respite in south Overland Park, KS. Siblings included up to age 13 years old.  See website to register.
  • Special Needs Program by Leawood Baptist Church. Free respite in Leawood, KS. Siblings included on the first Friday of the month October – May.
  • ​Through the Roof by Heartland Community Church. Free respite in Olathe, KS on the third Saturday of the month. Siblings included. Registration required.

​Tutoring & Academic Services

Accelerated Schools of OP - ​We provide individualized tutoring instruction in core academic subjects designed to meet your child’s specific needs.

Brain Balance Achievement Center of OP - addresses the whole child by integrating sensory motor training and stimulation and cognitive activities with nutritional and dietary guidelines.
